Contents: As you install Windows programs on your PC, you may he adding additional TrueType fonts to the standard set that comes with Windows. To see which TrueType fonts are installed in Windows95, click on Start, then Settings, Control Panel, and Fonts. (In Windows 3.x, open the Main group, then select Control Panel, Fonts.) Another way to see the available fonts is within a Windows application program, such as WordPerfect for Windows, or Microsoft Word. Within WordPerfect, for instance, click on the PowerBar item for Fonts. It will show a list of the installed fonts. You'll notice that some fonts have a small "TT" icon in front of them; these are TrueType fonts. Fonts that have a small printer icon are the resident fonts for your currently selected printer. The TrueType fonts are stored in files on the PC's hard disk, and the list of available fonts is loaded whenever Windows starts. There are two files for each font: one lot outputting the font to the printer, and another for displaying the same font on the screen. The font information is only sent to the printer when needed to print a particular document. |
